Hoppe's No. 9 Plus is a black powder solvent formulated for shooters of black powder guns, and it also serves as a patch lubricant. It lubricates while it removes fouling from the bore, so a single product handles the cleaning pass and the patch. The formula also protects the bore against rust and corrosion once the fouling is gone. It is described as equally effective in deep-grooved and shallow-grooved barrels, which covers a wide range of rifling profiles.

The product comes in an 8 oz bottle, and the Hoppe's manufacturer part number is 999. Retail specifications classify it as a gun solvent with the color listed as black. Hoppe's lists it as both a powder remover and patch lubricant, so one bottle covers cleaning and lubricating patches during a bore-cleaning session.
