How to Buy a Suppressor Online in 2026 (Without the Headache)
Posted by Blackstone Shooting Sports on Oct 14th 2025
Buying a suppressor online has never been easier — or more popular. Approval times are way down compared to what they used to be, and as of January 1, 2026, the federal NFA tax stamp for suppressors is $0. That change alone has brought a lot of new people into the suppressor world.
Right now, because demand is so high, we’re commonly seeing approvals come back in the 3–5 day range. As things level out, we expect approvals to trend even faster again — but like anything ATF-related, timelines can always fluctuate.
At Blackstone Shooting Sports, our goal is to make sure you understand the process, do everything correctly the first time, and never feel lost along the way. Whether this is your first suppressor or your fifth, we’re here to handle the paperwork side so you can focus on enjoying your time on the range.
If you have questions at any point, you can always call us directly at (704) 414-6020 and talk to someone who does this every day.

What “Buying a Suppressor Online” Really Means
This is one of the biggest points of confusion, so let’s clear it up.
When people say they’re “buying a suppressor online,” what they’re really doing is:
-
Finding the suppressor they want
-
Purchasing it online
-
Having it shipped to a licensed local dealer who’s authorized to handle NFA items
Suppressors cannot be shipped directly to your home.
FFL vs. SOT (Quick Breakdown)
-
A standard FFL can sell regular firearms
-
To receive and transfer suppressors, that dealer must also have SOT status
Not every gun store has that authorization — but we make this part easy.
When you buy a suppressor through Blackstone Shooting Sports, our FFL selector during checkout clearly shows which dealers are approved to receive NFA items. Any dealer with the proper SOT status is marked with a large “NFA” badge, so you can confidently select the right dealer without guessing, calling around, or worrying about delays.
Once selected, your suppressor ships directly to that qualified FFL/SOT dealer, where it’s legally held while your ATF paperwork is processed.
How the Suppressor Buying Process Works at Blackstone
The exact steps can vary slightly depending on the dealer, but this is how the process works when you buy a suppressor through Blackstone Shooting Sports.
Step 1: Choose Your Suppressor and Buy It Online
Start by selecting the suppressor that fits how you actually plan to shoot. That might be:
-
A rimfire suppressor for a .22 LR
-
A handgun suppressor for a 9mm pistol
-
A rifle suppressor
-
Or a multi-caliber option that works across multiple firearms

About the $0 Tax Stamp
Suppressors still require an ATF Form 4 submission and approval. What’s changed is the cost.
As of January 1, 2026, the federal NFA transfer tax (the “tax stamp”) for suppressors is $0.
Same paperwork. Same approval process. Just no $200 federal tax.
We break this down in detail here:
$0 Suppressor Tax Stamp Explained
During checkout, you’ll also choose how to register your suppressor:
-
Individual (simple and straightforward)
-
Trust (great if more than one person will use it)
-
Corporation (less common, but still an option)
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — we’ll help you choose what makes sense for you.
Quick tip: Before buying, double-check that your firearm has a threaded barrel and that it matches your suppressor or mounting system.
Step 2: The Suppressor Ships to a Qualified Dealer
Once purchased, your suppressor is shipped to the FFL/SOT dealer you selected during checkout. That dealer legally receives and stores the suppressor while your ATF paperwork is processed.
When you buy through Blackstone, we:
-
Confirm dealer licensing
-
Coordinate the transfer
-
Keep you informed throughout the process
You’re never left wondering what’s happening or what comes next.
Step 3: Fingerprints and Photo
Next, you’ll submit fingerprints and a passport-style photo. At Blackstone and most Powered by Silencer Shop dealers, this is done at a kiosk and takes just a few minutes.
-
Fingerprints are captured once and saved
-
Photo is a simple, straight-on image
-
Personal information must match your ATF eForms account exactly
This step matters — accuracy here helps avoid delays.
Step 4: Review and Sign Your Documents
You’ll receive an electronic document packet with everything filled out for you. Take a few minutes to review it, make sure everything looks right, and sign electronically.
This ensures your Form 4 is correct before it’s sent to the ATF.
Step 5: Create Your ATF eForms Account
You’ll then create a free ATF eForms account. Your name, address, and email must match your paperwork exactly — even small differences can slow things down.
If you want help, our team is happy to walk you through it.
Step 6: Certify and Submit
Once everything is ready, you’ll get a notification to certify. You’ll stop by your dealer briefly to:
-
Verify your ID
-
Review your information one last time
-
Certify and submit your eForm 4
After that, it’s simply a waiting game.
How Long Does Suppressor Approval Take?
Approval times vary and always depend on ATF workload and submission accuracy.
Right now, with demand being high, 3–5 days is common. As volume settles, we expect approvals to continue trending faster — but there are no guarantees.
The good news is that approvals are dramatically quicker than they were even a year ago.
